Second Stakeholder Participation Meetings
The second of the Stakeholder Participation Meetings were organised in each four partner countries with the participation of local stakeholders in April 2013. In these meetings SymNet project team in each partner country aimed to present the detailed progress of the project activities, the results achieved so far, remaining activities until the end of the project and post-project sustainability of the BSISP, and to obtain the opinion of stakeholders on a general strategy for cooperation in the Black Sea region in the four sectors of the project (logistics, energy, manufacturing, and tourism).
In addition, the findings of the sectoral Reports on Current Production and Trade Networks were discussed in detail during the meetings.
The second Stakeholder Participation Meetings were organised on April 19, 2013 in Varna, Moldova and in Istanbul, Turkey and on April 25, 2013 in Bucharest, Romania and in Chisinau, Moldova.

SymNet Follow-up Meeting in Chisinau, January 23rd-25th, 2013
During January 23-25, 2013, the Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (AITT) together with SymNet Project team organized the 2nd Follow-Up Meeting. The event took place in Chisinau, Moldova and brought together 8 representatives of the five partners involved in the project from four countries (Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania and Moldova).
The 2nd Follow-up Meeting aimed at providing an efficient communication and feedback platform on SymNet project activities for the third six months of the project, as well as enhancing cooperation among all partners. In this regard, the event focused on current progress of activities as well as future activities. Among the major issues that have been addressed throughout the 3-day event, there were the following: developing the Black Sea Industrial Symbiosis Platform; issues and final results of data collection field work; Part 2 and Part 3 of country reports on Current Production System and Trade network; issues encountered during data analysis process; database development and data entry; IT and GIS activities; participation and Industrial Symbiosis Strategy development and tools of the Platform; stakeholders engagement; project management and coordination issues; project visibility. Also, the risk management plan has been updated for last sixth project months, in order to foresee potential risks, estimate impacts, and define responses to arisen issues for successful implementation of project activities and reaching the indicators.

These first meetings aimed to introduce the project and Black Sea Industrial Symbiosis Platform (BSISP) along with its portal and tools, to present the progress of the project activities and the results achieved so far and to obtain the opinion of stakeholders on a general strategy for cooperation in the Black Sea region in the four sectors of the project (logistics, energy, manufacturing, and tourism).
Stakeholder Participation Meetings were organised on November 22, 2012 in Chisinau, Moldova; on November 23, 2012 in Varna, Bulgaria; on November 26, 2012 on Constanta, Romania; and on December 3, 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey.

First Stakeholder Participation Meetings
SymNet project envisages two Stakeholder Participation Meetings and the first of these meetings will be organised in each four partner countries with the participation of local stakeholders in November. These first meetings aim to introduce the project and Black Sea Industrial Symbiosis Platform (BSISP) along with its portal and tools, to present the progress of the project activities and the results achieved so far and to obtain the opinion of stakeholders on a general strategy for cooperation in the Black Sea region in the four sectors of the project (logistics, energy, manufacturing, and tourism). The findings of the sectoral Reports on Current Production and Trade Networks will be discussed during the meetings. SymNet project partners believe that the contribution of all stakeholders of the regions to the outputs of the project will lead to improved cooperation in the Black Sea Basin.
The Stakeholder Participation Meeting in Varna, Bulgaria will take place on November 23, 2012 in Golden Tulip Hotel — Varna. The Meeting will be organised as a half day event and the attendance of 25-30 participants is planned, including both stakeholders (companies that were interviewed and signed the BSISP Protocol) and decision-makers (local authorities and regional administrations).
The meeting in Istanbul, Turkey will be organised on December 3, 2012 in the meeting hall of UNDP Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development in Eminonu. 30 representatives from sector organisations are being invited to the meeting. Their input will be useful both in data collection process and in revising and finalising the Reports on Current Production Systems and Trade Networks.
The meeting in Constanta, Romania will take place on November 26, 2012 in Iaki Hotel, Mamaia. Decision-makers as well as industrial sectors representatives will be invited to the meeting.
The Stakeholder Participation Meeting in Chisinau, Moldova is planned to take place on November 22, 2012 in the conference room of Scientific Park “Academia” in Chisinau. The target participants are the main stakeholders, decision makers and selected company representatives.
SymNet Progress Meeting and Progress Conference was organised in Constanta on July 25th-27th 2012
National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" (NIMRD) together with SymNet team organised two major events: Project Progress Meeting and Progress Conference. The two events were held in Constanta, Romania between 25th and 27th July 2012 and marked the first year of the project implementation.
Representatives of the 5 partners of the project from 4 countries (Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, and Moldova) participated at the Project Progress Meeting. The most important issues on the agenda were, beside the project management and coordination, the first results on Black Sea Industrial Symbiosis Platform (BSISP) development, the beta version of BSISP portal, and data collection activities. Progress on Database Development, IT and GIS activities as well as planning for data analysis and interim report on current production and trade network system were discussed amongst partners. In order to avoid any potential risks which might appear during the project implementation, the Risk Management Plan was updated.
The 2nd follow-up meeting in Chisinau, Moldova was tentatively decided to be held between 21st and 23rd January 2013.
The Progress Conference was organized back to back with the Progress Meeting, on 27th July 2012 to announce the achievements of the project to the public. Representatives of national and local decision makers (Romanian Ministry of Environment and Forests, Constanta Prefecture, Constanta County Council, City Hall Constanta Municipality, City Hall Tulcea Municipality, "Romanian Waters" National Administration and Dobrogea Littoral Branch, National Environmental Protection Agency, Constanta and Tulcea Environmental Protection Agencies, Romanian Naval Authority, The Romanian Border Police / Coast Guard, National Environmental Guard / General Commissariat and Constanta Commissariat, Romanian Maritime Hydrographic Directorate, Free Zone Administration Galati) were present at the Conference. Representatives of the academic world (Romanian Academy, Constanta, Bucharest and Krakow Universities), business world, Constanta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture, research institutes, national and international NGO's and industrial companies also attended the Conference.

SymNet Progress Meeting and Progress Conference in Constanta, July 25th-27th 2012
Two major events will be held in Constanta, Romania between 25th and 27th July 2012: the Project Progress Meeting and Progress Conference. The two events will be organized by National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" (NIMRD) and will mark one year of the project implementation.
At the Progress Meeting representatives of the 5 partners of the project from 4 countries (Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, and Moldova) will meet for two days to evaluate the activities and results in the first year of the project. Apart from the coordination and management issues, the most important topics on the agenda are the first results of the Black Sea Industrial Symbiosis Platform (BSISP), stakeholder engagement, progress on data collection activities as well as planning of the activities for the remaining of the project: participation and Industrial Symbiosis Strategy Development, stakeholder meetings, etc.
The Progress Conference will be organized back to back with the Progress Meeting, on 27th July 2012 and it will announce the achievements of the project to the public. National as well as international stakeholders (local authorities, local administrations, companies representatives, universities, NGO's, international organizations, etc.) are invited to attend the Progress Conference. Dr. Margarita Stancheva (IO-BAS, Project Coordinator/Beneficiary) will present the "Project Activities Progress" and Dr. Pinar Ozuyar, (Ozyegin University, Project Coordinator/IPA Lead Beneficiary) will present "Industrial Symbiosis and Its Possible Effects on the Black Sea Basin". Representatives from Constanta Municipality and Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture as well as from NIMRD are expected to participate as invited speakers.

SymNet Follow-up Meeting was held in Istanbul, on January 16th-20th, 2012
The first Follow-Up Meeting of the SymNet project was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 16-20 January 2012. The 5-day event was organised by IPA Financial Lead Beneficiary Ozyegin University - Center for Energy, Environment and Economy at their Altunizade Campus.
Representatives of the 5 partners of the project from 4 countries met for the second time. The first 6 months of the project was evaluated and the activities for the next 6 months were discussed in detail, with a focus on data collection activities which are the core activities of the project. The methodology parameters for data collection were established and the requirements for the database were discussed. Partners exchanged views on issues related with GIS.
Activity schedule with deadlines for each Group of Activities and each sub-working group was prepared. Risk Management Plan for SymNet Project was also prepared in the meeting.
Internal communication tool for the project was introduced to the partners and visibility issues, including web page, newsletters and progress conference were discussed and clarified. The Progress Conference in Constanta, Romania was decided to be held on 25-27 July 2012. Sustainability of the project and intellectual property rights were some of the other issues discussed in the Follow-up Meeting.

SymNet Follow-up Meeting in Istanbul, January 16th-20th, 2012
The first Follow-Up Meeting of the SymNet Project will be organised in Istanbul, Turkey by Ozyegin University between 16th and 20th of January, 2012. The meeting will take place at the Altunizade Campus of Ozyegin University.
At the meeting, the project team will evaluate the first six months of the SymNet Project and discuss the upcoming activities, especially with a special focus on the data collection activities. Project management, visibility, awareness raising and sustainability will also be discussed in the meeting.

SymNet Kick-Off Meeting and Opening Ceremony took place on September 19th - 21th, 2011 in Varna
The kick-off meeting and Opening Ceremony of the SymNet project took place on September 19th - 21st 2011 in Varna, (Bulgaria). The first event included two-day sessions (19-20 September 2011) dedicated to the kick-off meeting and concerning activities and details on project implementation. The second event was held on 21 September 2011 as an open ceremony to the general public for introducing and launching the SymNet project.
During the kick-off meeting the representatives of 4 partner countries (Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania and Moldova) cooperated and worked towards successful running and implementation of the SymNet project. Many administrative and technical issues on management, activities and details of the project development phase were discussed and clarified among partners, as well as sub-working groups for different Group of Activities were set up. Time-tables with activities and deadlines for each sub-working group were established and they will be updated at the first follow-up meeting (activities already implemented and activities foreseen for implementation).
The kick-off meeting also included works on the most important task focusing on data collection and analysis to avoid potential risks. Partners discussed on preparation activities for establishing regional industrial symbiosis platform, planning project results dissemination, and on the follow up meetings and future SymNet activities. On the second day of the kick-off meeting all partners agreed to prepare and sign the platform protocol in each organization with partnership responsibilities and management structure.)
The Official Ceremony was open to the wide general public to introduce the main project objectives and activities towards establishment of industrial symbiosis network to minimize the environmental degradation of the Black Sea Basin. The ceremony was attended not only by project partners as well as by the representatives from different authorities,universities and local media (Basin Directorate for Water Management in Black Sea Region-Ministry of Environment and Water (Republic of Bulgaria), Bulgarian Chamber of Shipping, Bulgarian Navy, Executive Agency Maritime Administration, Heat-District System Dalkia - Varna, Black Sea NGO Network, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, etc).

SymNet Opening Ceremony, September 21st, 2011
The official ceremony will introduce to wide general public the main project objective towards establishment of industrial symbiosis network to minimize the environmental degradation of the Black Sea basin and in response to climate change consequences while maximizing the economic and social development of all partner countries.

SymNet Kick-Off Meeting, September 19th - 20th, 2011

The kick-off meeting will also envisage preparation activities on establishment of regional industrial symbiosis platform, planning and discussions on awareness rising and project results dissemination, and on the follow-up meetings and future SymNet activities.
